How XO works

The hill stops being the thing you think about.

XO follows the walk you are already taking. It reads movement at the hips, anticipates the next part of the stride, then adds effort where it can help.

The belt is the anchor

Everything pushes
against the belt.

The motors need something solid to work against. The belt locks onto your pelvis so the force goes into your skeleton instead of shifting around on you.

It braces your lower back while it does it, the way a loaded pack hipbelt does.

Why we are building this

Walking is a signal problem.

Every exoskeleton made today, ours included, works out what you are doing by watching your body do it. That inference is the ceiling on how natural assist can feel.

XO is built by people who work on how the brain encodes movement. We are starting with people who can walk, because that is how you collect enough real walking to be any use to the people who cannot.
