XO follows the walk you are already taking. It reads movement at the hips, anticipates the next part of the stride, then adds effort where it can help.
Motion sensors at both hips find the rhythm you are already walking at.
The motors need something solid to work against. The belt locks onto your pelvis so the force goes into your skeleton instead of shifting around on you.
It braces your lower back while it does it, the way a loaded pack hipbelt does.

XO is built by people who work on how the brain encodes movement. We are starting with people who can walk, because that is how you collect enough real walking to be any use to the people who cannot.
